hello!

it’s been quite some time since i’ve posted on here, unfortunately. not to be typical and write about resolutions, but i am making a goal of being much more active on here again. but unlike so many others, my first post of the year will not be about resolutions or goals or lifestyle changes. i’m starting the year off with a january favorites post, talking about the things i’m feelin at this moment, including makeup, clothes, books, etc. i haven’t been able to write a post like this to my liking so far, so we’ll see how this goes.

with every item i mention, i’ll try to find a direct link so you can check it out for yourself if you happen to be interested.

makeup

i will admit that i do have decently thick and long eyelashes, but this mascara makes it look like i’m wearing full falsies, without clumping at all or overpowering the eye. i think the price is quite reasonable for the quality of the product. plus, most of tarte’s products (including this one) are vegan, and they don’t test on animals! as someone who doesn’t use makeup that has been tested on animals, finding a good quality brand that doesn’t cost an entire paycheck is rare, and i’m very excited that one like tarte exists.

similarly to the mascara i just talked about, tarte impressed me even more with their eyeliner. i’ve tried several big brand eyeliners with similar brush styles, and none of them compare to tarte. the black is a smooth , solid matte that doesn’t streak or wipe off as you fill in. the brush doesn’t spread or fade after a couple uses, and the kohl end isn’t clumpy or crumbly. typically, i use the kohl end along my eyelashes, and the felt tip brush end for the cat eye or the flick at the end.

colourpop has to be one of my favorite makeup brands, for their awesome quality, super low prices, friendly customer service, and large quantity of product. i’ve never bought anything from them for over $8, and i always get my stuff shipped to me super fast. their colors are really smooth and vibrant, due to the fact that they store their unique formula in a pot instead of a pan. this particular shade of highlighter is a perfect barely-there gold, providing just enough dimension in my face without it looking like i wiped grease on my cheeks.

i’m the first person to pull out the dark winter shades as soon as fall hits, but as soon i found this shade on accident, i couldn’t stop wearing it. it is a little darker than it looks in the tube, but saturday is a perfect balance of a rich maroon read and a dark mauvey purple. their matte finish is surprisingly smooth, and doesn’t crack or dry out the lips too much (given it is matte, so some dryness will happen if you don’t moisturize well enough).

i know, i know. one direction perfume. i don’t quite know how i came across it, but every year i find myself anticipating the winter season so i can buy a refill of my all-time favorite fragrance. it includes a variety of smells, from jasmine and apricot and mandarin, to vanilla and patchouli, making a perfume i cannot even begin to compare to another.

clothes

  • large knit long cardigan // old navy

i couldn’t find a link to this sweater, but it’s my “that one sweater that you live in all winter” sweater. i would suggest checking out either old navy or target for good quality yet decently priced sweaters.

while i never would’ve bought these myself (they were a christmas gift), i have been living in these shoes sine i’ve gotten them. they’re ultra comfy, and still stylish enough for me to wear with simple, classic outfits (see instagram for “the” outift, my gray cardigan mentioned above, long black tee and black leggings, a black knit beanie, and my rosefield watch).

a. live. in. these. socks. they’re aloe-infused and super super soft, and have really cute patterns. the material on the inside sheds a bit, but i’ve found that washing them inside-out helps this a lot.

i’m a sucker for vans, and as soon as i tried these on, i had to buy them. they’re surprisingly flexible and i’m able to wear them with a variety of outfits. all of the pairs of vans i’ve had, i’ve found that they last for a very long time, and are very durable. they’re also coming out with a variety of new styles and colors of shoes, so there truly is a shoe in that brand for every person and every style. all of their shoes run from $50-$60, which i think is a very good price for their quality.

music

  • vampire weekend (modern vampires of the city)

a record i am very familiar with, getting this on an actual vinyl reminded me how much i love it. favorite tracks: step, everlasting arms, ya hey

  • queen (greatest hits record)

one of my favorite bands of all time, getting this on record also sparked a bit of a fire, and i’ve been listening to it nonstop. favorite tracks: killer queen, good old-fashioned loverboy

  • all harry potter soundtracks

thanks to the abc family (or, sorry, freeform) i’ve been back on my harry potter kick. also, there’s about 200 tracks to choose from, so favorites don’t exist for this one.

  • post malone (stoney)

i don’t typically listen to post malone, but iv’e been getting into his style of music lately. favorite tracks: congratulations

etc.

i bought this book when i was up in seattle about a week ago, and i’ve read it probably almost three times by this point. each little lesson or topic is short and sweet, and as cheesy as it sounds, i’m following some tips from the book and making a few lifestyle adjustments (just in time for the new year ofc).

like i said earlier, i haven’t done a post like this before, but i really enjoy sharing things like this with you all! i doubt i’ll end up doing one monthly, but you may see more posts like this pop up occasionally.

it’s been a really long time since i’ve posted on here, so thank you for sticking around regardless! and if you haven’t stuck around, and rather you’re new, thank you and welcome! i’m usually not this scattered as far as posting goes. i hope i haven’y made a bad first impression (:

thank you for reading!

xoxo,

maren
